What Is A Direct To Film Transfer?

Today we’re going to talk about what is a director film transfer.

A direct film transfer is basically the lovechild of screen printing and direct to garment printing. Direct to film transfers have the quality, the look and the feel of screen printing. But all the benefits, the nimbleness, and flexibility of direct to garment printing.

It’s a  literal marriage. Direct to film transfers are great for low minimums and large quantities. One of the reasons why there are these huge benefits, is the way these films are actually produced. The films have your artwork printed in reverse. And then hot melt glue is added to the ink. The file is then cured at about 350 degrees.  In the end you have a ink product that doesn’t have water in it and where it did have water, melted glue has replaced it. 

Once you print the direct to film  transfer, you can ship it across the country. The consumer can  grab a piece of garment, and stick the artwork right onto it. It’s actually super fascinating. Like I said, it’s a marriage between screen printing and direct to garment screen printing, because the look and feel of this is like screen printing. We’ve done a few jobs where people could tell the difference.

They could have sworn that it was screen print, but it wasn’t. And then it has all the benefits that direct to garment has with the no minimums and the multiple colors , gradients and so forth. If I was to bet anything is going to be the future of garment customization, its DTF Transfers.
